Australia Robbed of a National Treasure

Cricket legend and commentator Richie Benaud has sadly passed away in Sydney after fighting a long battle with skin cancer.

The 84 year old former Australian captain died peacefully in his sleep last night surrounded by his family.

Benaud had been receiving radiation treatment for skin cancer on his scalp since November.

He said when he was a child, he never once wore a hat to protect his head from the sun.

“I recommend to everyone they wear protection on their heads. Eighty-four-year olds don’t seem to mend as well as they used to,” he said.

There has been an outpouring of grief and remembrance from fellow cricketers and the public, with many announcing his passing has robbed us of a national treasure.

Benaud was widely regarded as one of the most influential people in the Cricket game’s history.
